The State Attorney’s Office for the Fourth Judicial Circuit of Florida is responsible for the prosecution of all crimes committed in Duval, Clay and Nassau Counties in Northeast Florida.

Angela B. Corey was elected as the Fourth Judicial Circuit’s State Attorney in August 2008.  She was sworn into office on January 6, 2009.

The Office’s practice encompasses the investigation and prosecution of cases across the full spectrum of criminal activity:

  • Murder and violent crimes against persons
  • sexual assault, domestic violence and child abuse
  • property crimes
  • public corruption
  • environmental crime
  • drug trafficking
  • racketeering
  • impaired driving

The office is organized by divisions. Each division concentrates on a different category of cases.

The County Court Division conducts criminal intake for misdemeanor offenses and prosecutes all misdemeanors and criminal traffic offenses.  Newly-created units operating in conjunction with County Court also focus on domestic violence and impaired driving cases.

The Circuit Court Division has jurisdiction over all felony prosecutions and is divided into eight felony divisions. Six of the divisions handle a varied felony caseload. The other two divisions specialize in the prosecution of career criminals. These two divisions, known as the Repeat Offender Courts, are staffed by experienced trial attorneys who prosecute career criminals and seek severe sentences upon conviction.

Our Juvenile Division, staffed by felony-level attorneys, prosecutes crimes committed by juveniles. These attorneys practice before Circuit Court judges who are assigned to the Juvenile Division on a rotating basis.

In addition, specialized divisions utilize attorney expertise in the investigation and prosecution of particular types of crimes. At present, these include

  • Homicide/Major Crimes Unit
  • Special Assault Unit
  • Sexually Violent Predator Unit
  • Traffic Homicide Unit
  • Public Corruption Unit
  • Drug Trafficking Unit
  • Civil and Forfeiture Division
  • DUI/Impaired Driving Unit

Our staff consists of approximately 100 attorneys and 225 support staff including investigators, victim advocates, paralegals, and diversion specialists, clerical and administrative personnel.
