Assistant State Attorney
The Florida Constitution vests the State Attorney with the sole and sound discretion to conduct grand jury proceedings, perform criminal intake and prosecute crimes committed against the people of the State of Florida. It is a task that requires good judgment, a sense of fairness, intelligence, and integrity.
Qualities of a Good Prosecutor:
The qualities of an effective prosecutor were perhaps best stated by Justice Robert H. Jackson, then the Attorney General of the United States:
“The qualities of a good prosecutor are as elusive and as impossible to define as those which mark the gentleman. And those who need to be told would not understand it anyway. A sensitiveness to fair play and sportsmanship is perhaps the best protection against the abuse of power, and the citizens’ safety lies in the prosecutor who tempers zeal with human kindness, who seeks truth and not victims, who serves the law and not factional purposes, and who approaches his task with humility.”
The State Attorney’s Office is looking for people with the enthusiasm, judgment, intelligence, and legal ability to effectively represent the interests of the people of the Fourth Judicial Circuit and State of Florida.
