GALLOWAY FOUND GUILTY OF SEXUAL ASSAULT IN 2016 CRIME

State Attorney Melissa Nelson today announces that Kelly Galloway, of Jacksonville, was found guilty by a jury of Sexual Battery. Galloway now faces a maximum of 30 years in Florida State Prison. The Honorable Mark Borello will sentence Galloway on June 21, 2021.

In October 2016, the victim encountered Galloway at a Downtown Jacksonville grocery store. Galloway then took the victim to a nearby home where forcibly raped her — at the time, the victim did not know Galloway’s identity. In January 2018, Galloway was identified as a suspect based on a CODIS hit from the victim’s sexual assault kit taken at the time of the crime. The victim was able to identify Galloway from a photospread presented by the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office and DNA evidence linked Galloway to two other sexual batteries that occurred in the Downtown Jacksonville area in 2016. The victims in those cases were permitted to testify at trial regarding their assaults by Galloway.

The case was investigated by the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office and prosecuted by Assistant State Attorneys Alex Weaver and Cameron French.
