HOLMES RECEIVES LIFE SENTENCE FOR 2016 MURDER OF SON’S MOTHER

State Attorney Melissa Nelson announces that Kameron Letroy Holmes, 25, of Jacksonville, was found guilty by a jury of Second-Degree Murder. On March 23, 2018, Holmes was sentenced to Life in Florida State Prison by the Honorable Russell L. Healey.

Holmes and the victim, Bria Kelsey, had a 3-year-old son together and were in a co-parenting relationship. On October 29, 2016, Holmes and Kelsey went to a Regency restaurant to watch the Florida-Georgia football game together, in hopes of mending what was a rocky relationship. At some point after leaving the restaurant, an argument occurred that resulted in Kelsey abandoning her original plan to stay with Holmes. Kelsey instead decided to have Holmes take her and their child back to her parents’ house. On the way there, Kelsey sat in the back seat and tended to their son. The argument escalated during the drive, enraging Holmes to the point that he shot Kelsey in the head at close range while she was still in the back seat and in the presence of their son.

The case was investigated by the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office and was prosecuted by Assistant State Attorneys Chris Huband and Pam Hazel.
