MAN SENTENCED TO 40 YEARS FOR SECOND-DEGREE MURDER, OTHER CRIMES
State Attorney Melissa Nelson today announces that the Honorable Linda F. McCallum sentenced Anderson Lee Nieves, 35, of Jacksonville, to 40 years in Florida State Prison with a minimum mandatory of 20 years for Second-Degree Murder; 15 years in Florida State Prison for Shooting Deadly Missles; and 15 years in Florida State Prison with a minimum mandatory of 3 years for Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon.
Nieves was found guilty at trial on all three counts. All sentences are concurrent, but the minimum mandatories are consecutive.
According to court documents and testimony and evidence presented at trial, Nieves was upset his girlfriend of more than 10 years took their four children and moved in with the victim. On a subsequent afternoon, Nieves saw his ex-girlfriend and the victim at a stoplight on Beaver Street, drove up next to the car and shot the victim. Nieves then chased the car and only fled the scene after his ex-girlfriend’s vehicle crashed into another car.
The case was investigated by Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office and prosecuted by Assistant State Attorneys Bernie de la Rionda and Sheila Loizos.
