NASSAU COUNTY GRAND JURY INDICTS PATRICK MCDOWELL

FOR FIRST-DEGREE MURDER IN KILLING OF DEPUTY JOSHUA MOYERS

State Attorney Melissa Nelson announces the return by a Nassau County grand jury today of an indictment charging Patrick McDowell with First-Degree Murder in the killing of Nassau County Sheriff’s Office Deputy Joshua Moyers.

McDowell (S.A. No. 21CF048946AN) is also charged with one count of Injuring or Killing a Police Dog and eight counts of Aggravated Assault on a Law Enforcement Officer.

The first count was against a minor victim in which the crimes took place over multiple years while Butler served in a custodial role. During this timeframe, Butler isolated the victim and committed multiple sexual acts against them, including penile and digital penetration.

The State intends to seek the death penalty.

McDowell will be arraigned on these charges Oct. 21, 2021.
