MOTT PLEADS GUILTY TO SECOND-DEGREE MURDER OF GRANDMOTHER
State Attorney Melissa Nelson announces that Logan Mott, of Jacksonville, entered a guilty plea for Second-Degree Murder in the 2017 death of his grandmother, Kristina French. As part of his plea agreement, Mott will be sentenced to between 15 and 40 years in Florida State Prison. A sentencing hearing is scheduled before the Honorable Bruce Anderson Oct. 16-18, 2019. Imposition of sentence will be at a date to-be-determined.
In late November 2017, Mott was under the supervision of his grandmother, Kristina French, at his father’s Neptune Beach home. The two were reported missing on Nov. 22, 2017. Law enforcement secured a search warrant for the home and determined it was a crime scene. Further investigation revealed Mott had shot and stabbed French, then attempted to conceal her body by burying it in a shallow grave in the backyard, On Nov. 24, 2017, Mott was detained at the Canadian border attempting to elude capture.
The case was investigated by Neptune Beach Police Department and the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office, and is being prosecuted by Assistant State Attorneys Joe Licandro and Alan Mizrahi.
