MULTIPLE-TIME FELON FOUND GUILTY OF POSSESSING FIREARM

State Attorney Melissa Nelson announces that Booker T. Oliver, of Jacksonville, was found guilty by a jury of Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon. The Honorable Linda McCallum on March 12, 2019, sentenced Oliver to 5 years in Florida State Prison.

On July 26, 2018, a member of the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office was waved down by a witness who stated Oliver, a four-time convicted felon, had a gun. The officer observed Oliver walking toward the witness and asked him to turn around. When Oliver did, the officer saw a firearm handle sticking out of his pocket. A search revealed Oliver possessed a fully loaded .38-caliber revolver and five live five rounds of ammunition. Oliver told the officer he purchased the gun from a child on a bicycle for $50 and was going to shoot the witness because they spat on him and tried to start a fight.

The case was investigated by Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office and is being prosecuted by Assistant State Attorneys Ashleigh Brooks and Declan Duffy.
