State Attorney Melissa Nelson announces that Felix Pusey was found guilty by a jury of Attempted First-Degree Murder, Attempted Second Degree Murder, Possession of a Firearm by a Juvenile Delinquent Found to Have Committed a Felony Act, and Discharging a Firearm from a Vehicle. The Honorable Adrian Soud sentenced Pusey to 40 years in Florida State Prison during a July 22, 2022, hearing.
On July 30, 2020, members of the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office were sent to Northwest Jacksonville apartment complex in response to gunshots captured on ShotSpotter technology. When they arrived, they found multiple shell casings and a black SUV with bullet holes and ricochet damage. The investigation led to police acquiring surveillance footage that captured the incident. The footage shows a white car enter the complex and stop to talk to the victim, who was standing outside and holding an infant. During the conversation, occupants in the white car begin shooting at the victims with a rifle – one person leaning out the window as the car sped away continued to shoot 18 rifle rounds at the victim holding the infant. Several children can be seen running away from the shots. The car was registered as stolen from Jasper, Florida, and found in front of Pusey’s residence –Pusey was detained and a search warrant uncovered the firearms used in the crime hidden in the home. Post-arrest, Pusey admitted to being in the vehicle and firing the rifle.
The case was investigated by the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office and prosecuted by Assistant State Attorneys Leah Owens and Trey Atkinson.
